We are excited to announce that we will host the BUSHVELD BIG FIVE FLY-IN to be held on the 15th of June 2019. This is the inaugural themed BIG FIVE FLY-IN and we aim to make this an annual event with the participation of the pilots, our hosts and sponsors.

We will celebrate our fly-in participants, their love for flying and their aircraft.

Many fly-ins are held annually, but none of them provide and showcase the Bushveld in a truly authentic way where it’s all about the bush, the animals and having family fun around a boma fire.

We also aim to include non-flying guests by attracting local communities to enjoy a day of game drives, air flips, sky-diving and tandem parachute jumps and children’s activities.

The pilots will have a chance to show off their winged beauties and visitors and peers will vote for their favourite aircraft in a people’s choice award. If all goes well, we want to end the day with a unplugged afternoon show. Food and beverage will be served all day long with the main event being a boma-braai.

The event must raise money for our academy, but is also a platform to promote our region, our people, local businesses and the bushveld; and to create awareness around the special conservation efforts in the area. The fly-in will be promoted through a digital campaign on social media, website and email, with direct marketing to all the fly clubs and national pilots database.

Because we are a small private academy (and fairly new) and don’t get any support from the Department of Education. We rely on class fees and events like this for funding. We employ five permanent teachers and educate 36 pupils (some of which are partly sponsored due to financial challenges.)

By raising money and growing our academy we ensure that our learners receive the best academic and growth stimulation, enabling them to compete anywhere in the world as well balanced, forward thinking individuals, who will hopefully become some of our country’s future leaders.

Our operational costs amounts to R625 000 annually. Our goal is to raise at least 50% of that with the help of our sponsors, our fly-in participants and those coming from near and far to enjoy our warm and friendly Bushveld hospitallity while being part of this uniquely different experience.
